The simple rule with copyright is: if you didn't write it yourself, it's probably copyrighted, unless the author states otherwise. Anything that's for sale has royalties going to the author, making it illegal for that content to be available for free online. These copyright rules extend to images, videos, models, textures, scripts, program codes and other works as well.

There are a few exceptions to the above rule, however:

Works produced by civilian and military employees of the United States federal government in the scope of their employment are public domain by statute.
UK Crown Copyright
Copyright on works produced by the Crown expire after 50 years.
