Exceptions to the rule

There are a few exceptions to the above rule, however:

US government photographs

Works produced by civilian and military employees of the United States federal government in the scope of their employment are public domain by statute.

UK Crown Copyright

Copyright on works produced by the Crown expire after 50 years.
